Mentoring the Next Generation
The Berkeley Lab IT Division has a long history of stewardship with community stakeholders. Since 1998, IT has mentored and employed student interns from local Bay Area colleges. The School to Career program, now IT Support Services Internships, was originally developed by Berkeley Lab’s Harry Reed and Charlie Verboom, and Dr. Bidleman, an instructor with the Peralta District, as its educational partner.
The IT Support Services Internships program offers valuable occupational work experience for interns scaled to the academic requirements of their respective college. IT is proud to recognize the contributions and success of mentors and students who participate in the internship program, bringing science and technology solutions to users at Berkeley Lab.
See How to Apply to learn more about joining the program.
Impact to the Lab
The internship program champions the Lab’s stewardship goals and generates value through the following activities:
- Recruiting excellent candidates.
- Providing the Lab with necessary and reliable IT support.
- Development of management and mentoring skills for managers.
The profile of the Lab is raised through volunteering, hands-on education, and local engagement.
