AI for Productivity
For All End Users
The services below are licensed for use by anyone at the Lab:
- Bev: Generative AI Search Engines for LBL Content Try the next generation of LBL search engines augmented with Generative AI. Ask questions, get answers. Bev is Beta – be sure you double check.
- Gemini Chat: All Workspace users have access to chat with Gemini.
- NotebookLM: A tool powered by Gemini to help you understand complex information by instantly becoming an expert on uploaded sources.
- Zoom AI Companion: All Zoom users have access to AI Companion, which can summarize meetings, take notes, and answer questions about meeting content.
- MS Copilot: Microsoft Copilot is an AI chat and collaboration agent based on OpenAI ChatGPT technology. Copilot can answer questions and generate images from natural language prompts. Your use of Copilot is covered by negotiated terms between Microsoft and Berkeley Lab. Login to Copilot using your Berkeley Lab identity. Note that Microsoft 365 Copilot (integrated with MS Office) is currently not available.

Obtain licenses or subscriptions to these services using a PID:
- Gemini for Google Workspace: An add on license which unlocks Generative AI Features across Workspace. Request a Google Gemini AI License »
- ChatGPT: UC is currently negotiating UC-wide terms and pricing with ChatGPT. In the meantime, if you need a Plus or Team ChatGPT license, please contact licenses@lbl.gov and include your PID.
- Microsoft 365 Copilot: Microsoft 365 Copilot integrates Copilot into the Office 365 Suite, so you can get AI-assisted collaboration directly in Word and Excel. Microsoft 365 Copilot is currently not available to Berkeley Lab users. We will update this information in the future if anything changes.
AI For Developers and Researchers
- GPU Nodes on Lawrencium: Get access to multiple generations of GPU technology. New H100s coming April 2024. Whether developing models or deep learning, GPU nodes can enable your research.
- GPU Nodes on SRDC For researchers with approved sensitive data projects (e.g., Export Control, S&T Red, etc), GPU nodes are available on SRDC.
- Access to all AWS and GCP AI/ML Tools: You can use our negotiated agreements with Google Cloud and Amazon Web Services to access the full suite of services from both vendors – from TensorFlow, to Gemini via API, to Vertex.
- ScienceIT AI/ML consulting: ScienceIT Consultants have helped many teams apply AI/ML solutions to research problems at the Lab. Get in touch.
- ML4Sci: Resources from our Computing Sciences colleagues focused on scientific use cases including training and datasets.
- GenAI Search Resources: The Lab has experience with three Gen AI search resources (RAG) and can assist with recommendations. Email scienceit@lbl.gov for assistance.
