Incoming Calls After Hours
After hour, weekend, and holiday calls coming into the Laboratory’s main number (510-486-4000) are given the option to speak the name or enter the extension of the employee they are trying to reach, to press “3” to reach Laboratory Security, or to call back during normal business hours.
Telephone Calls While On Travel
While you are on travel, your business calls should be charged to an appropriate private number, rather than billed to a Laboratory extension and then reimbursed by the Laboratory.
If authorized, you may use a Laboratory calling card.
Personal calls from laboratory telephones
Telephone calls of a personal nature are sometimes necessary but should always be held to a minimum in time and number. When placing a personal call from a Laboratory telephone, you should call collect or bill your call to your credit card or a third number.
These types of calls can be made from any LBNL extension, including a 5-digit extension, without the assistance of the Laboratory operator, except for internal only telephones. The calls can be made any time of the day or night, including weekends and holidays.
Placing a credit card call
- Dial 9, 0 (zero), the area code (if required), and the 7-digit number.
- Wait for a tone.
- After the tone, enter your credit card calling number.
- If you wait too long, an outside operator will answer. If this happens, hang up and try again.
Billing your call to a third number or calling collect
- Dial 9, 0 (zero), the area code, and the 7-digit number.
- Wait for a tone.
- After the tone, an outside operator will answer.
- Tell the operator to bill your call to a third number or to make the call collect.
