This article provides an overview of selected updates to Google Workspace apps. Lab staff can generally expect to see upcoming features become available in the weeks ahead. Jump to the summary to view the current status of features by announcement date.

Google Sheets

Setting up dropdowns in Google Sheets is easier and faster than ever. Start by selecting a range of cells with manually entered data then click Insert > Dropdown to automatically pre-fill the dropdown values with the cell data. Google Docs

To improve shareability, there is now a menu option to copy links to headings in Google Docs. Right-click any heading text then click the “Copy heading link” option. The link also appears in the browser address bar when any heading text is selected. 

Google Slides

The ability to add annotations in Google Slides with a new pen tool is a useful way to highlight key content or emphasize connections directly on the slide. While in slideshow mode, hover your mouse over the bottom-left side to open the options menu. Click on the three dot menu and select “Turn on the pen.”

Gmail 

Native translation integration for Gmail on mobile devices is currently rolling out for Android and iOS. Long available for Gmail on the web, Google’s translation service helps users communicate in over 100 different languages across mobile platforms. 

Google Apps Script

Project history for Google Apps Script is now available. Similar to version history for other Google apps, the project history feature enables developers to view previously deployed script versions and compare versions to the current script. Summary

Roll-out of Workspace updates to Berkeley Lab is determined by Google. We’ll do our best to maintain this list as the features are released but be aware that the status may not be accurate at all times.
