Check out the new ‘Follow’ feature in Google Slides to automatically jump to the slide a colleague is currently working on. Click on a collaborator’s profile icon in the Slides toolbar to turn on the ‘Following’ feature and you’ll move along with colleagues as they navigate the presentation. Click on the icon again to stop following.
Note: Following is also turned off when a collaborator refreshes or leaves the presentation or if you make edits, click another slide, or enter Slideshow mode.
Dropdown chips are now available for use in Google Sheets. Launched for Google Docs in May 2022, the dropdown is convenient for indicating statuses for data validation and tracking project milestones. Insert a dropdown chip by clicking Insert > Dropdown from the file menu or by typing “@” followed by “dropdown”. You can also add and manage dropdowns and data validation rules per Sheet tab by going to Data > Data validation. These workflow improvements make formatting spreadsheets an easier and more user-friendly process.

Enabling content managers to add users to specific folders in shared drives is a highly requested feature for Google Drive. Currently, content managers have the ability to edit, reorganize, and delete files in shared drives but they are unable to modify user access permissions for the individual shared drive folders. Google is enabling the ability to share folders by default for all content managers in February 2023. The exact release date is unknown at this time but stay tuned to learn more. IT will continue to share news of relevant and significant updates to the Berkeley Lab Google Workspace.
