Lab Profiles is a new service that makes your work more discoverable to potential partners, funders, and collaborators at the Lab and beyond. Lab Profiles (profiles.lbl.gov) let you search for people by name or keyword, and provides interactive visualizations of collaborations with other scientists on published papers. By creating a full, public, profile you are also participating in the Lab’s core values – earning the trust of the public and the scientific community, unlocking the potential of individuals and teams, and promoting the free exchange of scientific ideas.
Get Started:
The slide deck “How to update your Lab profile” has step by step instructions for filling out your profile, and a list of frequently asked questions.

Profile sites:
- profiles.lbl.gov is a publicly accessible site where you can search for and view detailed profile information for LBL research staff. Support staff are not in profiles.lbl.gov but their data is used in Division Profiles (see below).
- Division Profiles are a module in the new Berkeley Lab Design System – sites using the BLDS can easily insert short and long profiles of staff. This information can also be accessed via API.
- Google Workspace is also being populated with this data (in progress), so inside the Laboratory people can view additional data about you directly in our productivity tools (for example, you can hover over a person in an email thread and immediately see where they work, what they do, etc).
- The UC Publications System is the primary source of data for rich profiles. It combines data from publications and researcher profiles.
- The LBL HR Self Service system (hris.lbl.gov) allows you to update other personal data, including your role and a brief “what I do” field.
