Starting in January 2025, the Identity Management (IdM) team at Berkeley Lab will remove the requirement for password changes on your Berkeley Lab identity and Active Directory accounts. This update aligns Lab account requirements with modern cyber security best practices.
This change is designed to strengthen overall security while saving time and frustration. Instead of focusing on arbitrary password changes, the Lab requires users to:
- Choose a strong, unique password or passphrase that is difficult to guess.
- Enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) for an extra layer of protection.
Berkeley Lab’s IT team is committed to providing modern, effective solutions to balance security with ease of use. Removing the password change requirement is just one of the ways they are working to improve user experience while adhering to the latest cybersecurity best practices.
