Email Lists
Berkeley Lab provides a solution for self-managed mail lists using Google Groups.
Groups can be created using: https://identity.lbl.gov/creategroups and managed thereafter at https://groups.google.com/a/lbl.gov/
More information about how to manage lbl.gov Google groups can be found at: Google Groups
Dynamic mailing lists
Some lists must be dynamically-created (for example: level1-lbl or for all members of a division) based on Orgcode or HRIS data. These change often and manual updates are not appropriate. Where possible, the IT Division can programmatically create and update these organization based lists for you using Grouper (https://identity.lbl.gov/grouper), which will then sync to the corresponding Google group. Request help from the IT Help Desk (help@lbl.gov).
Mass Emailing and Mailing Lists
Sending mass communications via email is an important and valuable tool, but with it comes responsibility, risk, and repercussions. Those responsible for sending mass emails and mailing list owners should review the below information to ensure they understand the issues and best practices for using mailing lists, especially when non-LBL recipients are involved.
